Information overload! It’s not easy making decisions. How will they impact on our children? With their future as my sea anchor I attempt to plot a wise course and trust time will reveal it right. The Community Trust funds the technology and at last our dwelling is sustainable.  Sometimes we even produce electricity in excess of our needs. Our home is ready to be at one with the Earth.

Teachers: The common switchboard is about to become even more pivotal to our civilisation. This is because a range of technologies are converging in a way that makes the local grid the major key to our future. These include:

• Distributed generation – the use of a wide range of small electricity generators near source of use of electricity. Some of these can be home-based.
• Monitoring and Response – the ability of buildings and the appliances in them to adjust their activities in response to signals of the demand for electricity on the main grid.
• Communications – the ability of what we at present call “electricity wires” to deliver broadband to every electricity point in a building. This new technology, known as PLC or Powerline Communication will enable the delivery of information and entertainment on scale.

This importance will soon be compounded exponentially by the advent of the Post Cheap Oil Age.
