I install the giant intake fan and decide to drive it with the electricity generated in the image. Amazing. There is an interactive electricity meter on the site. I can pay Genesis Energy for any electricity I use. That’s nice. I connect it up and wait for the dials to start spinning. Holy Natural Forces!  Something is seriously wrong. I do an emergency dash into the meter ….

An important element of enabling people to make effective use of electricity is to provide them with good knowledge of their consumption patterns. Many meters in New Zealand are “dial” rather than “number” meters and it is very helpful if people can read them. Quality data means quality decisions and use. The Genesis Energy image seriously confuses scientific principles of force and complicates the challenge of communicating to electricity consumers how each dial turns in the opposite direction to its neighbour.
