I find the construction is the creation of ‘scientists’** I ask one of them what has Earth done to deserve this. It seems it is all about communicating to the layperson how the atmosphere works.

** We are all born scientists – see Einstein. Some people are paid to explore the nature of small aspects of the universe and get donned with the specific mantle of ‘scientist’  for various reasons.

 Fourier, the truly great explorer of Mathematics and “father of Thermodynamics” first generated the Greenhouse image about 1827.
The image is increasingly unhelpful but many ‘scientists’ persist with its use for a range of reasons that are for the most part unscientific.
