Examples of insulation standards in New Zealand 2006. In this example quality insulation, unlike some insulations that cannot fixed in position using staples etc, has been specified. However installation practice has ruined much of the value from day 1 of the building's life. The insulation is compressed, has gaps and is not fixed to prevent slump. This failure is particularly important as the insulation is not designed for this width wall cavity. These examples illustrate the low level of comprehension of basic thermodynamics in our construction industry and the need for a more coherent NEECS-Kyoto strategy.
